“Mais c’est un vrai diplรดme?”

J’aimerais avoir des artistes pop/rock Franรงais sur mon label pour promouvoir la musique made in France au Royaume-Uni, qui pour l’instant ne connaรฎt que quelques heureux รฉlus tels que Christine and The Queens, Daft Punk ou Caravan Palace. J’espรจre pouvoir changer รงa un jour!

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“

3 songs to extend that summer feeling

Here we are, itโ€™s September!

Some of us are back to work, others (like me) are back to schoolโ€ฆ the days are getting shorter and in Scotlandโ€™s case, we went from summer straight to winter, while my French friends are enjoying an indian summer in my hometown.

So if youโ€™re nostalgic about the warm weather and the festival season, let’s talk about 3 songs I really like to extend that summer feeling:

The Humpff Family revival โ€“ Sorry is a useless word

If you were a music fan in the 90โ€™s, this name must ring a bell.

The Humpff Family was a well-known act in the traditional folk-a-billy UK music scene and abroad, as they even made it to America.

Even if John Coletta (lead singer, mandolin) flew solo for a while after the band parted ways, the Humpff Family’s name and music has always been stuck in the fansโ€™ mind. ย So when he decided to go back on the road with a new version of the Humpff Family, they received a warm welcome and naturally sold out the Oran Mor last year for the Celtic Connections. ย

If you couldnโ€™t go to any festival this year, Iโ€™ll give you a tip: play their latest album โ€œRevivalโ€ and itโ€™s just like youโ€™re there, one beer in hand, catching up with friends and dancing to the music.

I feel like the Humpff Family is definitely cut out for live performances and festivals as they create a friendly and festive atmosphere, thanks to their entertaining and catchy music. You’ll have no other choice than to get up and dance.

” Youโ€™re so fine”, ” Sorry is a useless word” and “Hummingbirds & Bees”, which is a bit different from the other tracks as it has a bossa-nova kind of vibe are my favourite songs of the album which is of course available on Spotify.

Nicol & Elliott โ€“ Wish Youโ€™d Stayed Away

I talked about Nicol & Elliott before in the French section of my blog (artistes ร  dรฉcouvrir), but I thought I would mention them for my anglophone audience as well as I played their music all summer.

The alternative country/Americana duo released their debut single โ€œWish Youโ€™d Stayed Awayโ€ on March 29th on Electric Honey and Iโ€™ve been obsessed with this song ever since. ย Rachelโ€™s (Elliott) fiddle parts give a traditional vibe to the music and her angelic voice blends perfectly with Andrewโ€™s (Nicol).

Itโ€™s funny to think that what was supposed to be a one-off collaboration for the Celtic Connections last year led to this beautiful project. The chemistry between them works so well that itโ€™s hard to believe theyโ€™ve only been working with each other for a little more than a year. It was clearly meant to be!

Whether they play in acoustic version or with a full band, their live performances are always captivating . You can feel that they are authentic and passionate about the music they deliver.

Their new single โ€œSweet Downfallโ€ will be out this autumn and is just as good as โ€œWish Youโ€™d Stayed Awayโ€.

Chris Greig And The Merchants โ€“ Lipstick

If youโ€™re into melodic pop/rock tunes and if you like The 1975, 2 Doors Cinema Club or Catfish and The Bottlemen, you will love the single โ€œLipstickโ€! Click here to listen to it.

Iโ€™ve been to some of their gigs, and itโ€™s obvious that their music takes another dimension when they perform live. Their fan base is pretty impressive as you can hear them singing along as they dance and jump all over the place.

Your lipstick stains my mind

Well, I don’t know about the lipstick, but the song, for sure! It’s impossible to get bored while listening to them as their melodies and lyrics are infectious. Youโ€™ll find yourself singing along after hearing the first chorus, and youโ€™ll be humming the songs for days afterwards.

The previous single โ€œColoursโ€ is another example of their ability to deliver catchy melodies which will be stuck in your head.

Their EP has been out since June on Electric Honey and features โ€œLipstickโ€, โ€œStopGoโ€, โ€œColoursโ€ and โ€œTalking Aloudโ€ .

Pour ceux qui nโ€™auraient pas lu lโ€™onglet ยซ About me ยป, jโ€™ai repris les รฉtudes lโ€™an dernier et je fais un รฉquivalent de BTS en Music Business.

Beverly Hills 90210, reboot

First, I have a confession to make: Iโ€™ve never been a true fan of Beverly Hills 90210. I was about 10 years old when the show became huge in France so I couldnโ€™t identify to the main characters. My biggest problem at that time was to pick up some clothes for my Barbie doll. So rich girlsโ€™ problems with boysโ€ฆ I didnโ€™t get it and I wasn’t interested.

When I was older, I decided to watch the whole show again from the beginningโ€ฆ I liked it overall but it never became my favourite serie.

When I heard they were preparing a 2nd reboot with the original cast (the 1st reboot happened in 2008 and only featured Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling and Shannen Doherty in season 1 and 2) I wasnโ€™t sure how I felt about it, especially when Luke Perry (Dylan) died the same year this reboot was announced.

Fox ordered 6 episodes, aired the first one last Wednesday and I managed to see it on friday. Click here to see the new opening intro.

So let me tell you straight away: this isnโ€™t an actual reboot, itโ€™s the story on how the reboot is going to be made. Are you confused? Great, me too.

The dream team play a satirical version of themselves inspired by their real lives.

In this pilot, the gang finally reunites at a fan convention in Las Vegas. So Tori Spelling plays Tori, a married mother of 6 whose TV reality show is about to be cancelled, and she has to find a way to pay the bills. Brian is slightly jealous of his much more famous wife and Shannen is away, taking care of the planet. Jennie is going through a divorce, Gabrielle is a new grandmother, Jason tries to make it as a director and Ian is a successful businessman, taking every chance he gets to promote his project.

It reminds me a little of โ€œEpisodesโ€, the serie where Matt LeBlanc plays Matt LeBlanc, who is desperately trying to get back into the spotlight.

Anyway, halfway through the episode, I still wasnโ€™t sure I understood what I was watching.

I canโ€™t deny that it is a very creative idea as they donโ€™t have to come up with an explanation about Dylanโ€™s death for instance, but I donโ€™t know how I feel about it after watching it.

BH 20910 is clever for sure as there are a lot of references to the original show.

Shannen Doherty doesnโ€™t come to the BH90210 reunion with the journalists but still manages to steal the whole castโ€™s thunder with an Instagram live appearance on a huge screen. We all remember that Shannen and the rest of the team had their share of drama back in the 90’s to the point she got fired, to the great disappointment of the fans.

Speaking about them, they always thought Andrea, played by Gabrielle Carteris, was gay. So Gabrielle explores her sexuality in this reboot and kisses a woman in a bar.

Donna and David have always cared for each other throughout the original series, whether they were dating or not. Tori and Brian still have this close bond in the reboot, even if they havenโ€™t seen each other for years.

So to sum it up, this new reboot is inspired by the actual lives of the actors, the lives of their character in the show and sometimes also by what happened backstage in the 90’s. Yeah I know, I told you this is very confusing.

If Iโ€™m being honest, I didnโ€™t laugh a lot, even if itโ€™s supposed to be satirical. I think something is missing and the first part of the episode is kind of awkward. I didnโ€™t feel any chemistry between the actors when they met up at the airport. It seemed pretty hypocritical and I felt like the magic was lost. The second half gets a little better and the tribute to Luke Perry in the end in truly moving.

So for now, letโ€™s just say Iโ€™m not entirely convinced this reboot is necessary. Yes, there are some good ideas and it’s weirdly funny sometimes but it’s also very messy.

It’s only going to be 6 episodes (that’s what we know so far), but will they be able to build a good storyline? I will watch the next episodes anyway and see what it brings!

Have you seen this new reboot? What did you think? Tell me in the comments!

The Lion King

It took me some time to go and see the new Lion King, and yet I was very enthusiastic when I saw the trailer for the first time.

But I heard some people were disappointed in the film, so I wasn’t sure I wanted to go and take the risk of ruining the memory I had of one of the best Disney films Iโ€™ve ever seen.

Then I thought the director Jon Favreau did a very good job directing the latest version of The Jungle Book (2016) so I finally decided to trust my first instinct and go and see his adaptation of The Lion King. Without wearing waterproof mascara. I should have known better, what a mistake! =)

I have to say that I really donโ€™t understand how people can be disappointedโ€ฆ the film is so incredibly beautiful that it is actually hard to believe that the animals and the sceneries have all been created in a studio and are therefore computer-generated. The remake makes you wonder if animation can get better than this.

The opening scene with the โ€œCircle of Lifeโ€ song in the background is truly outstanding and echoes the original film almost shot for shot: We’ll get this feeling again a lot during the film. From this moment on, you can already tell that it was important to the team to maintain the spirit of the Disney classic.

I know that a lot of people didnโ€™t like the film because it looks too realistic and to them, it ruined the emotional dimension of the first version. I strongly disagree with that. In fact, I felt more connected to these animals BECAUSE they seem so real. This only enhances the sensibility and the emotions in the scenes in my opinion.

Letโ€™s talk about the voice cast now.

First, what a delight that James Earl Jones came back for the voice of Mufasa. He was such a perfect king in the original version. His strong and deep voice is the best one to teach young Simba about the circle of life, how to be a good king and how he will someday watch over him through the stars.

Both young Nala (Shahadi Wright Joseph) and Simba (JD McCrary) are carefree and full of energy and their voices blend so well on โ€œI Just Canโ€™t Wait To Be Kingโ€.

I wish Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar) sounded just as vicious as Jeremy Irons, the original one. Though Ejiofor does a really good job, Jeremy Irons will forever remain the voice of the most vicious and despicable villain Disney has ever known.

Donald Glover is a great choice for adult Simba, as the voice of a charming and powerful leader.

As for Beyoncรฉ, sheโ€™s a perfect fiery and passionate adult Nala and her rendition of “Can you feel the love tonight” is beautiful, even if slightly unsubtle. It can be a little distracting for the audience when she sings, as she really sounds like Beyoncรฉ and not Nala anymore.

Billy Eichnerย (Timon) captured the witty sense of humour of the original Timon and gets most of the funniest lines that he delivers in a very sarcastic way. Seth Rogen as Pumbaa is hilarious. The duo light up every scene theyโ€™re in.

I would like to mention a reference to the classic during โ€œHakuna Matataโ€. In the original, Pumbaa explains why heโ€™s been rejected by the other animals and Timon stops him in the middle of his speech: “Pumbaa, not in front of the kid!”. He doesn’t in this version, and Pumbaa asks him “Are you gonna stop me?”. I thought this was a clever and funny reference that only people who saw the film several times would get!

Finally, the arrangements of the new versions of the songs are a little different and more modern but still in the spirit of the original ones. I only regret that Scarโ€™s one โ€œBe preparedโ€ is a lot shorter here as it has an interesting dramatic dimension in the first version that could have been exploited more in the remake.

And thank God, they kept the wonderful and irreplaceable orchestral music by Hans Zimmer, which is just as moving now as the first time I heard it. His work on the film is his masterpiece to me.

Jon Favreau said in a documentary about the film that they wanted to capture what peopleโ€™s memory was of the original Lion King with both the music and the imagery. He also wanted to maintain the spirit while showing something new and surprising.

Well I guess it sums up pretty well my feelings about this beautiful remake.

Be Charlotte โ€“ Do Not Disturb

New York.

A prรฉsent signรฉe chez Columbia Records, elle sort son nouveau single ยซย Do Not Disturbย ยป en mars 2019.

ยซ Do Not Disturb ยป est pile poil dans la tendance actuelle avec ses sons รฉlectro et sa mรฉlodie pop bien accrocheuse !

Years & Years โ€“ If Youโ€™re Over Me

Frais et addictif, ยซย If Youโ€™re Over Meย ยป est un single du trio Londonien Years & Years et il est sorti en 2018.

Vous vous souvenez de 2 Doors Cinema Clubย ? Leur titre ยซย What You Knowย ยป a รฉtรฉ utilisรฉ en France pour une pub de la Franรงaise des Jeux.

ยซย If You โ€™re Over Me ยป est parfait pour cet รฉtรฉ, cโ€™est un titre qui vous restera bien dans la tรชte et que vous fredonnez sans mรชme vous en rendre compte !

Nina Nesbitt โ€“ Loyal To Me

Il y a tout de mรชme un morceau que je connaissais et que tu as aussi sรปrement dรฉjร  entendu si tu as regardรฉ une certaine sรฉrie ces derniรจres annรฉes.

  • 500 miles (Iโ€™m gonna be) โ€“ The Proclaimers

ร‡a te dit vaguement quelque choseย ? Cโ€™est normal. Si tu as regardรฉ

  • The Bonnie Banks oโ€™Loch Lomond

By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond
Where me and my true love were ever won’t to gae
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o’ Loch Lomond

O ye’ll tak’ the high road, and I’ll tak’ the low road
And I’ll be in Scotland afore ye
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o’ Loch Lomond

‘Twas there that we parted, in yon shady glen
On the steep, steep side o’ Ben Lomond
Where in purple hue, the hieland hills we view
And the moon coming out in the gloaming

O ye’ll tak’ the high road, and I’ll tak’ the low road
And I’ll be in Scotland afore ye
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o’ Loch Lomond

The wee birdies sing and the wild flowers spring
And in sunshine the waters are sleeping
But the broken heart it kens, nae second spring again
Though the waeful may cease frae their greeting

O ye’ll tak’ the high road, and I’ll tak’ the low road
And I’ll be in Scotland afore ye
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o’ Loch Lomond

Petit lexique รฉcossais rapide :

  • Bonnie = beau, belle

Toy Story 4

Toy Story 4 is probably the film that most people were looking forward to seeing while being worried that it would ruin a perfect trilogy.

Toy Story 3 ends with Andy donating his toys to little girl Bonnie, including his long-time best friend Woody the sheriff. They play together before he leaves, and the toys can finally start their new lives with Bonnie. We all thought that was it!

None us was expecting a new chapter after this bittersweet and yet lovely ending, but here we are, following the new adventures of our favourite heroes 9 years later. I’m always a bit scared of being disappointed when a new installment is made so much time after the last one. Have we lost the magic? Fortunately, the magic is still here for me! First, because the animation is incredibly beautiful and also, because it takes our beloved Woody to another lever.

Funny thing to mention: there were no kids at all in the room when I was at the cinema!

-Spoilers alert! –

The plot

Woody has always been very dedicated to his kids. When little Bonnie burst into tears before going to kindergarten orientation, Woody sneaks into her backpack to help her get through the day. She creates a new friend at school named Forky, made of lollipop sticks and a spork, who comforts her more than any of the other toys. From this moment on, Woodyโ€™s mission is to keep Bonnieโ€™s new favourite toy around, as Forky isnโ€™t willing to embrace his new life as a toy and would rather throw himself away every chance he gets.

When the little girl takes the whole gang to a family trip, Forky jumps out of the window and Woody goes after him to try and make him understand how important he is to Bonnie. They will meet old and new friends along the way that leads them back to Bonnie.

The first thing to say about this film is that all the Toy Storyโ€™s classic themes are front and centre again: an existential crisis and insecurities, the importance of moving on, the rescue of a lost toyโ€ฆ though Forky (Tony Hale) is supposed to be the main character here, we can tell that it is really about Woody (Tom Hanks) trying to figure out his place in the world, as the film goes.

In my opinion, Toy Story 4 is possibly the weirdest film Pixar has ever made, as this film is like a horror film for kids. Most of the scenes in the antique store are pretty creepy, and there are a lot of references to iconic horror films such as The Shining or Chucky. I actually got lost in the film during these scenes, and I was expecting to scream and jump , forgetting that it was a Pixar film =)

But I canโ€™t tell you how many times I laughed to tears as well! The dialogues are brilliant and smart, with a sharp sense of humour and the film is full of running gags involving Forkyโ€™s desperate attempts to throw himself away, Buzz (Tim Allen) and his inner voice and Ducky (Keegan-Michael Key) and Bunnyโ€™s (Jordan Peele) fantasies.

Ducky and Bunny would totally deserve their own spin off by the way, as they are the most entertaining characters in the entire series to me.

And obviously, like all Pixar movies, this one also pulls at our heart strings more than once, and I found myself fighting back some tears in the final moments.

Woody is like a father figure to the new characters, he takes care of Fork and teaches him the meaning of being a toy, he calms Duke Caboomโ€™s (Keanu Reeves) insecurities and helps him build his confidence and he gives his voice box away to the most endearing villain ever Gabby Gabby (Christina Hendricks) so she can be chosen by a kid. The wisdom, the sacrifices, the positive behaviour towards somebody who lack of confidence are qualities that we can get while growing up.

And when we thought Woody was finally where he was supposed to be, the return of Bo Peep (Annie Potts), who has been a lost toy for years, shakes his belief. She finds independence fulfilling and loves being free whereas it is Woodyโ€™s biggest fear. When he meets Bo Peep again, it is his turn to become a proper adult and to make some tough decisions, as Bo Peep shows him that independence is the first step of growing up.

Thatโ€™s why in the end, I have the feeling that Woodyโ€™s character is the embodiment of our own growth. He went from a friendly but slightly arrogant and insecure character in Toy Story 1 to a responsible adult, finding peace of mind eventually in number 4. He’s not just saying goodbye to his friends, he’s embracing his new adult life and letting go of his childhood as well.

What if it was the perfect ending we were all waiting for unconsciously?

Madame x, Madonna

“Madame X is a secret agent, travelling around the world, changing identities, fighting for freedom, bringing light to dark places.

She is a cha cha instructor, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper, an equestrian, a prisoner, a student, a teacher, a nun, a cabaret singer, a saint, a prostitute. “ (album booklet)

“Madame Xโ€ has been out since June 14th, and I wanted to wait and listen to it a few times before writing about it as I couldn’t decide whether or not I liked this album.

Some days I was loving it, some others I wasn’t so sure. I think that you have to be in a certain kind of mood to fully enjoy this record. This is not the album youโ€™ll put on casually when your friends are coming over or when youโ€™re cleaning the house.

It’s probably Madonna’s most personal album she’s ever made. She has become more and more political throughout the years and she speaks her truth: gun control, women’s right, religion, oppressed minorities… Madame X speaks on behalf of us all.

โ€œI’ll be Islam, if Islam is hated
I’ll be Israel, if they’re incarcerated
I’ll be Native Indian, if the Indian has been taken
And I’ll be a woman, if she’s raped and her heart is breakingโ€

(Killers Who Are Partying)

It’s not an easy album to listen to as it’s very intense, lyrically speaking, and it is confusing in so many ways. If I had to sum it up, I would say that most of the songs are like Russian nesting dolls. There are several songs within one and you never know where it’s going to take you.

“Dark Ballet” and “God Control” are the best examples. The first one starts with a piano and vocals, then out of the blue, it goes straight to the Nutcracker Suite with a robotic voice talking about politics:

“They are so naive
They think we are not aware of their crimes
We know, but we are just not ready to act “

“God Control” starts the same way, then a disco beat takes over, building up the intensity of the song with strings and a choir.

โ€œPeople think that I’m insane
The only gun is in my brain
Each new birth, it gives me hope
That’s why I don’t smoke that dope [โ€ฆ]  We need to wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake upโ€

The world of Madame X

“The world of Madame X” is a 22 minutes documentary released by Amazon on June 29th. Madonna tells us the story of the record and I feel like I finally understood the things that didn’t make sense when I heard it for the first time.

The first thing we learn is that Madame X was Madonna’s nickname when she was studying at the Martha Graham school of dance, as Martha thought she was a mysterious young woman. She decided it was a perfect name for her new album.

Madonna found her happy place in Lisbon, where she met Dino D’Santiago, a Portuguese singer of Cape Verdean descent, who took her to living room music sessions. She met all these incredible latin musicians there who play “the music of the soul” and that’s why we can hear some Fado influences (“Killer who are partying”), Cape Verdean rhythms (“Batuka”) and some Portuguese lyrics (“Crazy”) in the album .

Inspired by these sessions, Madonna did some recordings and sent them to producer Mirwais, who worked with her previously on the albums “Music”, “American Life” and “Confessions on the Dancefloor”, hoping he would be as inspired as her. And Mirwais worked his magic. His special sound is very obvious on tracks like “Crave” or “Extreme Occident”.

Madonna also tells us that even if she loves voices that don’t sound human and music that sounds robotic, there always has to be some humanity in everything she’s doing.

This is why the album is so experimental: Madonna combined her musical experiences in Lisbon with the trendy sound of Mirwais, while keeping her soul by writing about her values and what she believes in: freedom, peace and tolerance. I strongly recommend to watch “The World of Madame X“, it’s so interesting.

“I Rise” is opening with a segment of Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor Emma Gonzalesโ€™ speech and it is the perfect song to end this intense album. It’s about hope and courage, and Madonna gives a voice to minorities who are suffering and don’t have the opportunity to speak their mind.

“Just hold on to the little bit of magic in it “

I’m glad I took some time before writing about “Madame X”. I finally bought the album. Even if I probably wonโ€™t listen to it as much as I listen to my favourite album “Ray Of Light”, at least now I know for sure that “Madame X” is iconic in its own bizarre way.

5 Francophone artists you need to know!

The good thing about living in a different country is that I get to discover new music that we donโ€™t have in France and then share it with my French friends.

But it also allows me to bring French music in the UK. I wrote an article in French about 5 of my favourite Scottish artists, so I thought Iโ€™ll do the same for my British friends!

I chose 5 artists from different genres, so whether you’re into pop, rap, electronic music or storytellers, there should be at least one that you’ll like!

Here’s a top 5 of Francophone artists you need to check out!

  • Angรจle

The 23 years old Belgian singer/songwriter broke into the music scene in 2017, after releasing her first single โ€œLa loi de Murphyโ€ which has now over 24 million views on Youtube.

She quickly became a hitmaker, mixing electronic beats with a touch of pop and reggae sometimes.

She launched her debut album โ€œBrolโ€ in October 2018 and she was smart enough to write โ€œBalance ton quoiโ€, a feminist anthem inspired by the โ€œMeTooโ€ movement. Once again, the video has been a huge success. More than 30 million people saw the video, where Angele shows with a great sense of humour how sexist the society can be sometimes.

Check it out, itโ€™s brilliant!

  • Vanessa Paradis

When I talk about Vanessa Paradis here in Glasgow, Iโ€™m surprised to find out that most people have heard her debut single โ€œJoe Le Taxiโ€ before.

But it was in 1988 and she has come a long way ever since! She collaborated with Lenny Kravitz, Johnny Depp and other talented French artists and released some beautiful albums such as โ€œBlissโ€ in 2000, which includes the sublime single โ€œPourtantโ€ or โ€œDivinidylleโ€ with the lovely โ€œL’incendieโ€.

Donโ€™t be fooled by her childlike voice and her shyness, she is an amazing performer.

Many people grew up with her as she was only 14 when she started her career and thatโ€™s why sheโ€™s very appreciated in France, not only as an artist but as a woman as well.

  • Matthieu Chedid
Credits: Yann Orhan

Best known as -M-, Matthieu Chedid is a gifted singer/songwriter and musician who is at his best when he’s performing live. His shows are always spectacular and they usually sell out quickly.

He introduced his musical alter ego -M- in 1997, when releasing his first solo album “Le Baptรจme” (the baptism) . -M- wears colourful clothes, uses sparkling guitars on stage and his hairstyle is a signature. His dad Louis Chedid is a singer, his grandmother Andrรฉe Chedid a well-known poet, and we can hear this legacy in -M-‘s music. His songs are complex and poetic and he’s singing them with a high-pitched voice.

I should also mention that he worked with Vanessa Paradis on her album “Bliss” and wrote the music for her single “Pourtant”.

Here’s a link to one of his most popular songs ” Je dis Aime” , but you should also listen to “Machistador” and “Qui de nous deux” !

  • Ofenbach

The French Touch is now well-known and respected worldwide, thanks to Daft Punk and David Guetta, who made electronic music accessible to a wide audience by collaborating with pop stars.

Though their songs are in English, I thought I would talk about Ofenbach as they deserve more exposure. This DJ duo from Paris delivers a very interesting mix of electronic, pop and rock music.  If itโ€™s fair to admit that their music can be a little repetitive, they still manage to prove that sometimes less is more. Their singles โ€œBe Mineโ€, โ€œKatchiโ€ and the latest one โ€œRock itโ€ feature a bass line that youโ€™ll remember for sure.

Their music is perfect for a summer playlist, so itโ€™s the best of times to check them out!

  • Mc Solaar

Mc Solaar is no ordinary rapper. He has a unique way with words, relying on word play and poetry and his flow is amazing. He is the best French rapper to me.

His biggest hits were released in the 90โ€™s. His first single โ€œBouge de lร โ€ (out in 1991) is the one which made rap trendy and popular in France.

His masterpiece โ€œSolaar Pleureโ€ is one of my favourite French songs EVER.  The lyrics, the sound, the rhythm, the videoโ€ฆ the song is a pure gem.

Iโ€™m not really into rap usually, but heโ€™s so unique that you definitely need to listen to some tunes. You should start with โ€œSolaar Pleureโ€ and โ€œCarolineโ€!
